On the game:
It was an awesome performance from start to finish. It actually started this
morning at shoot around; they were very focused. We gave them the day off after
Phoenix and they came in and were ready to play. They got after it early…They
did a great job, they were physical, we rebounded and then offensively, it was
just beautiful. Good ball movement, getting the ball to where we were trying
to get it and it all worked out. We shot 54% and we pounded them on the boards
a little bit. We just played an awesome team game…Everybody that played did
a great job.
On Jamaal Tinsley:
He really came in and controlled things in that 2nd quarter…and in the 4th quarter
when he was in there and they were trying to press us, he kept us under control.
Early in the 3rd when we had the 21-point lead, they were making us take quick
shots, they were pressuring us and I called timeout and I told him 'that's what
they want you to do. They are trying to speed it up, they're behind, they're
trying to get extra possessions by speeding the game up…' then I put Jamal in
the game and we just slowed the game down to a walk.
On the team:
This is the best we've played against a quality opponent…tonight was a 48-minute
game of outstanding play.
On the win:
They're a great team and we came out and beat them, it shows what we can do…we
were just focused, we're not a soft team at all, we were just focused on what
we came here to do.
On the big run:
Basically, we played good defense. We made them take their toughest shots and
made them force shots. We felt good about it.
On the win:
It was a great win…It is important to win and beat a good team like Portland
at their place. But we realize a win is just a win and we got to come back and
beat the Clippers at their place."
On Jamaal Tinsley:
He gave the ball to the right person at the right time and the other guy executed.
On Tinsley:
He did a great job of quarterbacking the team. He did such a good job of putting
everyone the right place, especially when Hasheem was in the game; making sure
that we didn't miss Thabeet…he (Tinsley) did an unbelievable job tonight.
On beating the Blazers:
I thought last year we battled Portland well most of the time, even this year
at home we battled them well. Tonight we jumped on them in their place, which
is a really tough arena. It's one of my favorite arenas to play in but it's
a tough arena to play in; the Rose Garden, and we kept the crowd out of it and
played well as a team.
