Mayo on the Drive | Conley to Gay
On the the importance of the win:
“Very, very important with the way we were playing and playing from behind. It started pretty good and it got away like the last two games. Then at the end we just made some stops and Rudy (Gay) made some huge shots and we won it.”
On Chris Bosh:
“Chris is a very tough match-up and he is a really good playmaker on the court, he is a ball handler, he makes jumps shots and he is strong. He is tough to guard and more than anything he gets you in foul trouble.”
On the overtime:
“When you feel good about something you should keep doing it I guess. I felt good and I made the best of it.”
On the mismatch in overtime with Jose Calderon:
“I was just reacting to them. We ran the same play and we got something out of it the first time so we kept on going to it and fortunately it kept on working.”
On the losing streak coming off a back-to-back:
“Everything was against us. This was one of those games that we really needed and we got back to how we like to play.”
Will this win re-energize the team?
“It should, we will know that before the next game. It is crazy that an overtime win can re-energize you, but it might.”
Do your eyes light up when you see you have a mismatch guarding you?
“At the end of the game we need a bucket. Personally it doesn’t really matter who is in front of me. I have a height advantage of course, but my eyes light up anytime I get the ball.”
Thoughts on scrapping out tonight’s win:
“This is how we got to 26 wins, fighting and scratching. We are not a pretty team, we are overachievers and we’ve got to go out and overachieve to win and that takes a lot of energy and a lot of effort and a lot of second effort. We have gotten away from that a little bit and it was a good sign to see that tonight.”
Zach Randolph got into foul trouble late. What are your thoughts on his discipline because the Raptors continued to go after him?
“Well it was huge. We needed those guys in the game and they both stayed from fouling out. They made some plays and that’s the ball game, that’s the way it was. I was thinking ahead about who I was going to put in if they had fouled out. When I switched them and Zach (Randolph) got five and then Marc (Gasol) got five and I’m like ‘well then who would I put in at that position?’ We are going to have to be really small. Bosh was just a monster and I didn’t know who I could put in on him and then in the end he missed a couple shots, they missed a couple shots around the horn and we get the win.”
