Grizz Growls: Let the Season Begin!

Hello Memphis!

I hope all of you are as fired up as I am for this upcoming season, our first preseason game at home was amazing. It was exciting to see the team back in action on the court. Opening Night can’t come soon enough.

It was good to see all the guys again and they look ready and confident for the upcoming season.

Our recent trip to Birmingham for the Open Practice started at about 7 a.m. on Sunday morning, it took every ounce of strength I had to get out of my cave, run a brush through my hair and get to the bus that was waiting on yours truly.  True to form I was the last one on the bus and that was met with some groans from the Grizzlies executives who were along for the ride.  The drive took us about 4 hours with two stops on the way there.  The first stop in Potts Camp, MS was an instant classic!

As I got off the bus to stretch my legs, I decided to go into the gas station.  Upon entering I saw the coolest shirt on the face of the earth; it was a Flicks Amoco Country Restaurant shirt.  Now reading this I know it might not sound like a very cool shirt but let me back up a bit and tell you a little bit about this gas station, errrrrr or should I say gas station/restaurant/wedding chapel.  That’s right you read this correctly there is a spot for you to get married in this place.  For those of you who follow me on Twitter, you could have seen a picture.  For those of you who don’t, what are you thinking, hop to it my username is Grizz.  (yea I know very original.)  To make a long story short I bought the shirt for $10 and in my humble Grizzly opinion it was a very wise investment.

After the long ride, we finally arrived and the first chance to grab a glimpse of our 2009-2010 Memphis Grizzlies was upon us.  The practice was fun and the guys looked awesome, the highlight for me was with about 30 seconds left in the scrimmage Rudy Gay followed up a miss with a thunderous one handed jam.  It was also nice to get in front of some of my peeps in B ham. It was my first visit there and they welcomed me with open arms. It was especially good to catch up with our President of Basketball Operations, Coach Gene Bartow who lives there right now while kicking cancer’ butt!  Coach and I have a special bond and I’m confident he is going to come through this battle victorious.

I’m not going to bore you will the details of the ride home; it was late and very uneventful.  Well that is except for the snoring harmony our Entertainment Coordinator Brandon Anthony and Group Sales Account Executive Carlos Sinde which prevented me from any sleep on the way home.  I have never been more excited to see FedExForum after that snoring experience.  We returned to FedExForum in the wee hours of the morning.

Make sure to leave me some questions or comments below and I will do my best to answer them.

And remember, if you’re going to be a Bear, be a Grizzly
