Grizzlies’ fans countdown to Opening Night has begun. We just got finished with the official tipoff to the 2009-2010 NBA seasons with our annual Media Day. The team has since loaded onto the bus and headed to Birmingham Alabama to start training camp. Now I know I can’t speak for everyone (can’t speak myself to be honest) but I sure am glad our new look Memphis Grizzlies are back on the court and ready to rock and roll this season. For me, Opening Night on October 28 can’t come fast enough!
Now I’m sure many of you don’t really know what Media Day really entails, and to be honest with you neither do I. What I do know is that this is a chance for all the media outlets to get a chance to speak with the players when there not just getting out of practice or rushing back to the locker room after an exhausting game. What media day means to me, it’s a chance to film all those 4th quarter pumper videos you see at the games. We all know that these guys are great at playing basketball, but you would be surprised how good some of them are at being in front of a camera laying down some footage to help you fans get fired up.
Here’s a quick funny story about a former player for all of you, this player was one of my all time favorites and I’m sure going to miss him. Let me start off by saying when the player come into the studio for the videos they usually need a few times to loosen up and get the take right. Last season on Media Day Hakim Warrick came busting through the door just as Rudy was finishing up and yelled out “Don’t worry One Take Hak is here”! Wouldn’t you know he was one and done and wouldn’t let Rudy live it down. Hakim was great when it came to helping me out filming videos, but I’m very confident some of the other guys are going to step up and fill in right where he left off. Hak best of luck this season and hopefully we can catch up when you make a return trip to the Bluff City, Beware though were coming for you!
Now you might be asking yourself why the Grizzlies decided to move their training camp to Birmingham this season. Well leave it to this blue bear to give you the inside scoop! I spoke with Coach Hollins the other day and asked him this exact question. His response was, with all the new faces on the team this year it is important to get away and develop that all important “Team Chemistry”. Well Coach we know when the team returns to Memphis they’re going to be a cohesive wrecking ball ready to destroy the rest of the league.
My long day has finally come to a close, I’m heading down to the bear cave for some much needed Z’s. I love reading all the comments so make sure to submit them, if you have any questions please add them as well and I’ll try my best to answer them. Make sure to check back soon for another addition of Grizz Growls real soon.
And remember, if you’re going to be a bear, be a Grizzly!
